paying off student loans with clutter

I'm going to tell you something super embarrassing for me...

When we were moving from Alaska to Florida back in 2012, I had already decluttered so much stuff. Like, bags and bags of things I didn’t even remember owning.

I held three garage sales in a row.
By the third one… people drove by but didn't stop, or walked up and quickly left.
No one wanted my stuff.
Not even for free.

And I just remember standing there, looking at this giant pile of random things, and thinking:

“I totally could have paid down my student loans instead of buying all this.”

At the time, I had three little kids, fresh out of college, and student loans I hadn’t even started paying yet. It always felt like everything else was more urgent and expensive, so I just put the loans off.

But then I saw it. Like, actually saw it
The toys.
The outfits.
The kitchen gadgets.
The half-used planners.
The “it was on sale!” stuff.

I had spent tens of thousands of dollars on things I barely remembered… and now I couldn’t even give them away.

That moment changed me.

Not in a guilt spiral way, just in a “wow, I see it so clearly now” kind of way.

Since then, I’ve never been mindless about what I buy or what I keep.
Because once you declutter and see what you actually had… you start to realize what’s actually worth your time, money, and energy.

And honestly? Until you declutter… it’s hard to even know what that is for you.

I’ll never forget that flash of insight that hit me like a ton of bricks.

And I'm SO grateful for it because it changed the trajectory of my life for the better. That's what I want for you, too.
